Even at its modest price, I cannot recommend this game which feels like someone tweaked a basic 'Unity' tutorial. In fact, it feels exactly like a hastily made flash game from back in the day; lazy graphics, no "feel" to the game as such (it is hard to tell when you have been hit unless you check your status bar), very rudimentary audio design, and the most basic side-scrolling gameplay. The "growth" aspect of the game adds a little bit of depth, but it also helps accentuate how slipshod the rest of "Corbin" feels. I am sure the developer was leaning heavily on being "charming" here, but whatever charm the game has can be gleaned from its screenshots (and perhaps the wordy tutorial). I appreciate what the developer was going for, but a few fish-puns don't make up for action that gets old after a few minutes. The only thing that saved this game from an instant refund was my four-year-old who found some enjoyment in it, but even she lost interest fairly quickly. This game is certainly "family friendly", and for those with kids it might be worth a purchase. Again, the price-point is a saving grace, but there are free games out there that have significantly more care put into them. This game feels like a first draft made with placeholder assets, in fact I double-checked that the game wasn't in "early access" after first playing it. The fact that Steam was promoting this game on their front page does not inspire confidence in how they 'curate' games.--- Update: There now seems to be a playable demo available (wish it was an option before I purchased the game) and I heartily recommend that if you have any interest in this game you demo it first; there is not much else in the full game that you should be able to experience in the demo... if there are hidden depths to this game I haven't seen evidence of them.. Working on a tutorial!: We just pushed out a small update that shortened the start up time on the game. We noticed when the game started up it was way too slow so we did some tweakin' and got it workin' better! This is all in preparation for our tutorial push we are working on. The tutorial will be in comic book format with Paul the Clown fish showing off his teaching skills. Stay tuned for more on that later.. Violent Sol Kickstarter: We are happy to announce that our next project is now on Kickstarter. It's a much bigger game that will be heavily moddable with nice long story line. Get more information on Kickstarter now!https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/651297750/violent-sol. Under a Week to Go: We are basically dev done, have some leaderboard work to finish up, and all we are working on for the next week is the polish. Waiting on Steam to ok our first build, make sure we didn't miss anything, then we will be going live on the 17th at 4pm EST. Get us on your wishlist today so you can be among the first to play.. Cornflower Corbin - Animations Update 1/13/2019: The updates to the animations have continued. The Sea Turtle has come together really well. It is a dramatic change from the original turtle to what will be in the game. It will have three sets of animations making them do a few different things while idle in the ocean getting shot at by lasers. Here is an animation showing the old turtles in the game. The new turtles jump out with color and have a ton more personality than the old ones. Check them out. That shows off two of the animations which are subtle but add variety to the sea creatures. We are adding one more animation making the turtles eyes open and close. Then it will be on to the poor neglected jelly fish. Here is another sneak peek at the turtles as the first level, open ocean, comes together. once the jelly fish comes together you should expect another update from us. As always please do come pick up the game before the update of the first levels animations to beat any price increase that might happen. We are enjoying the update and love how it is starting to look and feel. Wishlist or Buy Now. Demo Now Available!: We really want to see people try out Corbin, because we think it is really fun when you get into it. So we put out a demo that allows you to play one level of the game. The full version includes 5 levels, plus unlockable single level play for leaderboard chasers, and an endurance mode that goes on forever to see what kind of crazy score you can get. Try it out today by simply clicking the Download Demo button on the right side of the store page.
